SOPHIA DELORES (JONES) STROTHER-BROOKS

Sophia Delores Strother Brooks affectionately known as (Big Soph) was born December 24, 1958, to the beautiful union of Mr. David and Mrs. Myrtle Jones, Jr. By the age of 14 she was fluent in five languages and after high school, she attended trade school to enhance her Godgiven talents. 

Sophia was married to Andre Ernest Strother on September 18, 1980, in Springfield Massachusetts, and two beautiful children, Sophia Antwonique (Lil Soph) and Aunri Strother, were born into this union.  After her husband’s unfortunate passing on April 22, 1993, Sophia relocated to the Waco/Marlin area. After expanding her family with the birth of her third child, Francois De’Andre, she decided in 1999 to return to Springfield Massachusetts where she could be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. In 2008 she returned to the Waco/Marlin area and made it her permanent home until her untimely demise on Saturday, February 18, 2023.

Our community is distraught by such a great loss of shining light and love expressed through Sophia. She made many sacrifices and chose the ultimate sacrifice of unselfish love and commitment attempting to save the life of her husband, Mr. Jerry Brooks on that fateful day. 

A true entrepreneur at heart, Sophia was CEO of Sophia’s Euro Cuisine, a catering company she started with her daughter Sophia Antwonique. The people they blessed with their culinary talents in the Waco/Marlin area, surrounding communities as well as neighbors and friends are too numerous to count; sharing her love language was the joy of her day, and let us not forget how she loved cats and gardening that also speaks of her tenderness and grace. 

Sophia’s legacy of compassion, acts of service and gift giving is bound in the hearts and minds forever of everyone she touched both near and far, both friend and stranger.

She is preceded in death by her loving parents David and Myrtle Jones, Jr. and brother Kevin Jones.

The love and cherished memories remain with her children: Sophia Antwonique Strother Lewis (Javvi) of Austin TX, Aunri D. Strother of Springfield MA, Francois D. Strother of Austin TX, and stepdaughter Jerrica Alexander of Savannah GA; Siblings: David Jones Butler (Linda) of Garland TX, Keith Jones (Yolanda) of Waco TX, Sonia Jones of Austin TX and Kenneth Jones (Yolanda) of Houston TX; Grandchildren: Zavier CD Strother, Dondre T. Strother, Leloni S. Mullen, Mason Arias, Malayan Strother, Mila Strother, five great-grandchildren and a host of friends and loved ones.
