On February 18th, 2023, Heaven gained two angels: Jerry Wayne Brooks and Sophia Delores Strother- Brooks. Jerry was born May 16, 1953, in Marlin, Texas to Margie Brooks (Parker) and General Taylor.
Jerry graduated from Marlin High School in 1971 and joined the United States Navy shortly after graduation. Fireman Recruit Jerry Brooks was honorably discharged from military service on May 6, 1974.
On March 9, 2014, at Upper Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Jerry and Sophia were wed in Holy matrimony by Rev. Steve Johnson Sr.
Jerry enjoyed several hobbies, particularly fishing, which he loved the most. His love for fishing will live on through his daughter and it was also a special time he shared with his wife. If Jerry was not fishing, he was under the hood of a car or painting someone's car which gave him a sense of gratitude and fulfillment; so much so that he went on to attend TSTC to receive his Associates Degree in automotive August 15, 2014. Many people will continue to admire Jerry’s work as they cruise the streets of Marlin, Waco, and surrounding cities.
Preceding Jerry in death are his wife Sophia; his father General Taylor; his grandmother Jespa Bradley Brooks Lowe; grandfather Nazree Brooks; and brother Beauford Ray Brooks.
Remaining to cherish Jerry’s memory is his daughter, Jerrica Alexander (Dwayne Sims Sr.) of Savannah, GA., three grandchildren, Dwayne Sims Jr., and Nahshon Sims of Savannah, GA., and Anthony Alexander of Dallas, Texas, His mother, Margie Parker, his brother Arthur Ray Parker, his sister Gloria Parker Evans, all of Marlin, TX one niece, three nephews, and a host of family and friends who love him deeply. Jerry’s love also extends to Jerraniqua and Elisia Alexander as his daughters.
