Service for Mr. George "Uncle Son" Weatherspoon will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Marlin Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Falls County Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m - 4:00 p.m. Masks are required for visitation and funeral service at the church. George Weatherspoon was born to Cansadie and George Weatherspoon, Sr. on June 14, 1925. He received his education from the Marlin school district and had been a lifetime resident for over 90 years in the Falls County area. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944 – 1946 in Germany and parts of Italy. After the military, he returned back to Marlin, Texas, where he lived a quiet and simple life, enjoying family, his children and friends, as well as playing dominoes, the Texas lottery, and scratch off tickets. His friends in dominoes called him Smokey, and other friends called him Son or Uncle Son. He was a good man to know cause his word was his bond. George worked several jobs, some being a brick mason, construction worker, and mechanic. Whatever he could do, he was always ready to help. He was a loving daddy, brother uncle, grand-daddy, and great grand-daddy. He will surely be missed around Marlin and Evans Texaco (Marlin).
He was preceded in death by both parents, 4 brothers, 1 sister, 1 sister-n-law, and 3 children. George leaves to cherish in memory 8 children, Boddy Weatherspoon, Ernest Jones, Jerra (Wilson) Melvin, Ruby (Womack) Chapelle, Carla Johnson, George Wilson; Gloria (Cole) Calicutt; Albert Weatherspoon; 2 stepsons Alfred Ray Wilson and Willie D. Wilson Jr.; 3 son-in-laws Clarence Johnson Chappell; Alvin Johnson, and Robert Butler; 3 daughters-in-laws, Comera Jones, Dorothy Weatherspoon and Johnnie Wilson. Two brothers: JC Weatherspoon and Marvin Weatherspoon and 1 sister Angela Lane and 2 sister- in- laws Robbie Weatherspoon and Lorena Weatherspoon. 34 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren a host of nieces and nephews and friends, great niece and nephews.
