Ernest’s Life Story

Ernest Joe Newton Jr.  aka “Pookie” was born on October 30, 1976 in Rosebud, TX to Ernest Newton Sr. and Brenda Kay Holloway.

Ernest grew up in Marlin, Texas and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age.  He attended Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized under the leadership of Pastor W.M. Johnson Jr.  His love for Christ flourished as he was a member of the church choir and was also the director of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church Drill Team.

Ernest attended Marlin Public Schools and loved to study music; for he was an astute saxophone player.  He graduated from Marlin High School in 1996.  After graduation Ernest went into the military and served his country.  In 2013, he received his Associates of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration and later received his Bachelor’s degree.

With an infectious smile and generous heart, Ernest was always the life of the party.  He enjoyed life and believed in living it to the fullest. Ernest real enjoyment was spending time with his daughter Tristyn.  They enjoyed shopping together and Ernest was simply amused with watching her play sports.

On March 25, 2021, Ernest departed this Earthly life for Heaven’s gates after fighting a hard battle with cancer.

Ernest is preceded in death by his grandparents, Louise Holloway, D. Davis, Irene Humphrey, Bill Humphrey, Baby Ray Newton, and Willi Newton.
