LIFE JOURNEY
Eddie Rogers was born in Marlin, Texas to Mr. James (Jim) and Queen (Cox) Rogers. They welcomed a beautiful, brown skin little boy, their bundle of Joy, and named him Eddie. We aren’t sure if his parents knew that his name meant “a wealthy protector”.
At the time of Eddie’s birth, there were already 9 other little Rogers ready to assist their parents in nurturing, loving, caring and showing Eddie the Rogers household of rules. The Rogers family had a total of 8 boys and 2 girls. Eddie loved his mother and often verbalized that he was “Mama’s baby boy”. He may well have been her favorite because he talked about her all the time.
His occupation was Construction, but his favorite pass time was fishing. He was a Master Fisherman in his own right. Fishing was his favorite pass time.
Eddie attended public school at Booker T. Washington in Marlin, Tx. where he received his childhood education.
Eddie always made friends wherever he was. He was a very sociable individual. He was definitely one handsome fun man, And, everyone he came in contact with felt extremely loved. Eddie always exhibited an exuberant, compassionate spirit; he always extended love; not only with his family but with his extended family, friends and many, many others he met during his 95 years of life.
When Eddie met his life partner, the love of his life; Bernice Price (Babe), their love for one another was like no other. So, on the 20th of July 1946 they were united in Holy Matrimony, and were married 75 years until his death. Shortly after settling into marriage, Eddie and Bernice welcomed 11 children to their union, 7 boys and 4 girls.
Eddie was a faithful, God fearing man. He received Christ at an early age and was a devout member of Power House Church of God in Christ in Marlin, Texas.
Eddie’s memory will live forever in the hearts of his wife of 75 years, Bernice Rogers, his children, 5 sons: Eddie Earl (Lela Mae) Rogers of Leander TX; Stevie Fitzgerald Rogers (Phyllis) of Denver CO; Rickey Rogers, Kevin Rogers, both of Marlin TX; Ronnie David Rogers of Harker Heights TX and 4 daughters: Bobbie Jo (Lonnie) Moore of Springfield MO; Bettie Ann (Glenn) Davis of Houston TX; Doris Lawrence of Killeen TX, Vickey (Wayne) Mitchell of Arlington TX. 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents James (Jim) and Queen (Cox) Rogers; 2 sisters: Mae Ella Rogers and Mazella Rogers (Bass); 7 brothers: James (Duddie) Rogers, Maron (Sambo) Rogers, Jessie (JC) Rogers, Mack (MC) Rogers, Johnny (Jack) Rogers, Clement Rogers, and Freddy Rogers; two sons: James Rogers and Joseph Rogers.
“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:6-8 KJV
